doodles

I am in the process of building a catalogue of drawings and doodles that I've done recently and using them to create digital montages.  I will be documenting the development and outcome of this project in the next few weeks.  Here are the first few that I have scanned.

Beautiful new colourways: black on off-white and white on black.  These designs were showcased at the Craft Hatch market in early May and are printed onto a lovely new organic hemp/cotton blend basecloth, 13 ounces in weight.

orchid and tulip commission

Well, excuse the photographs of this drawing! But nevertheless, you get the idea (although unfortunately some of my painstaking detail does not translate so well here)
This drawing was a commission and I completed it in early autumn.  It references an orchid (surprise surprise) on the left and a wild tulip to the right.  It was done with pen and ink on watercolour paper.

audio mulch 2.0 launch

Audio Mulch has just launched its latest software version 2.0 for mac and pc.  The whole site and product has been re-branded and was a collaborative effort by myself (illustration and branding), and the very clever and talented boys; Tony at H4 and Nic, aka Aodhan.
The website banner above was done mostly in illustrator and for the splash screen I took some elements from the website and clipped them for the splash page background.
Ross has posted a live patching demo at vimeo that illustrates the amazing depth of this software. For all you audio enthusiasts out there make sure you register and become part of the action!

lilly pilly gully

A few sketches I did awhile back for a new pattern I'm developing.  Lillies are very interesting shapes I like the lines that they create.

Skream's remix of UK electro duo La Roux.
'La Roux' is french for red-haired one...aka lead singer.   There is a bit of a bio about them at last.fm and you can check the de-dubbed version here.

everybody's a bit of a ....

In my opinion, Steve Coogan is a comic genius. His stand-up show kicked off last thursday at the Melbourne comedy festival.  For those in the dark, Coogan burst onto the global stage with his staring role in Michael Winterbottom's '24 Hour Party People'; recounting Tony Wilson and the demise of Factory Records.

Others may remember him more fondly from his character in the award winning BBC drama I'm Alan Partridge.  A self-proclaimed sex addict, cocaine-fuelled bastard, one could argue Alan Partidge is Coogan's embellished alter ego- but I'll leave that for the viewers to decide!

Coogan's closing words "everybody's a bit of a c--- sometimes" sums up the shows modern take on Monty Python theatrics perfectly.

You can't find the stand-up show online, but there are loads of Alan Partidge clips around:

Last years open studio was, in part, organized by the very talented jeweller Vikki Kassioras. Above is a preview of her recently made beautiful Lapis Lazuli necklace.  You can find more details and images about her practice here.

Also a plug for the new Open Studio Nicholas Building blog, put together by Vikki.  Keep an eye on the space for upcoming information about studio practitioners, open days and any new arts events in the nicholas building.

handprinted cushion covers

Brand new cushion covers from orchis morio, showcasing the new cactii print (olive on cotton drill), and the jellies print (on cotton / linen).  These were launched last weekend at the Craft Hatch market, and are now available to buy online here or at retail shop Exhibit.

new cactii screenprint

Well, its been awhile between prints, but here is the latest fabric from orchis morio.  This is loosely based on cactii leaves and samurai swords.  If you're looking for a connection between the two you probably wont find any, but that is the point to some extent!
The base is a natural cotton drill, at 200gsm, with an olive print.
A wholesale and retail price list is available on request, smaller fabric pieces can be purchased online here.

silhouettes and pink lipstick

Animal Collective; My Girls ('Merriweather Post Pavilion', 2009)
Silhouettes and pink lips, well, could there be a better combination?
I love the simplicity of this clip. It reminds me of a post I was thinking of awhile back, about 70's inspired clips and a return to psychedelic rock.
